What is glucose intolerance?
Either:
- Impaired fasting glucose is a fasting blood glucose level of above 6.0 mmol/L
- impaired glucoe tolereance is a blood glucose level of over 7.8 mmol/L 2 hours after consuming 75g of glucose.
Glucose intolerance includes anyone with either impaired fasting glucose (IFG) or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).
Tests
Test performed to diagnose glucose intolerance include:
- Fasting blood plasma glucoe test in a laboratory
- Oral glucoe tolereance test
Symptoms of glucose intolerance
The symptoms are the same as type 2 diabetes:
- You may not feel any symptoms
- Thirsty
- Dry mouth
- tiredness
- blurred vision
- frequent urination
Treatment for glucose intolerance
Lifestyle changes oare recomended to prevent overt diabetes. Diet and exercise, weight loss.
