Angie Llewellyn Credentialled Diabetes Educator

Angie is a Registered Nurse, credentialled diabetes educator and has been teaching diabetes since 1996. She became interested in diabetes when her daughter was diagnosed with type 1 in 1991. 

Angie has worked in all areas of diabetes and in most clinical settings across Australia including rural and remote.  Angie really enjoys teaching and helpig people reach that 'Ah ha' moment because as she says the key to manageing well is having enough knowldge to brain storm issues, change what is within their power and to recongnise when help is needed.

 

Angie has had a particular interest in young adults with type 1 diabetes and diabetes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.  Aprt from working in remote communities Angie was involved in a project with South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute  (SAHMRI) creating diabetes educational videos for Aboriginal and Toress Strait Isalnder communities.   She travelled with a film maker to all corners of South Australia recording diabetes stories as well as filming educational segments by various health professionals. These stories became the backdrop for the educatonal segments and can be found on the ASHMRI website.

Angie is passionate about diabetes and loves helping people to do well incorporating the latest in management and technology. In 2019 she won Credentialled Diabetes Educator of the Year in SA.

Her other interests include writing, creating glass mosaics, gardening and snow skiing.
