About fees and gaps
Despite diabetes being a huge health priorty for the governemnt, the Medicare rebate does not adequately renumerate for diabetes consults. Most people will need a few consults to properly assess, educate and support. The number of consults also depend on type of diabetes, issues, technology needs and paper work to name a few.
Unfortunatly, the government have a ‘blanket’ approach for time and remuneration for health care professionals.The government offer 5 subsidised consults at 20 minutes duration per year shared amongst listed allied health professionals. Other health professionals listed under the chronic disease care plan can often complete their consult in the allocated time but diabetes is much more involved and complicated necessitating a gap payment to cove time spent.
At Diabetes Central we give value for money and we endevour help you self manage for the long term.
It may be money out of your pocket but if you think of it as ‘ and investment in your health it is money well spent. Health is wealth!
Online face to face telehealth or phone consultation
Initial Consult $125.00 (40mins) Medicare rebate is $55.10 with EPC referral
Follow up Consult $75.00 (20mins) Medicare rebate is $55.10 with EPC referral
A Medicare rebate is available for those with an eligible Chronic Disease Care Plan. It currently pays $55.10 for a 20 minute consult.
Private health
In general, private health funds have not covered diabetes education but some do cover for diabetes courses , health course. It's best to ask them! Let us know so we can register with your company so you can get the rebate.
NDIS
You will need to contact us directly, NDIS does cover education services that benefit you but it need to be negotiated in your plan.

Longer consults
We realise that sometimes a longer consult is required e.g. commencing technology such as continuous glucose monitoring and we can tailor appointments to suit your needs.
Paperwork completion – outside of an appointment e.g. NDSS change forms $50.00
Insulin titration and CGM data review packages – 3 telephone reviews over 3 weeks $? (in addition to individual consults).
Gestational Diabetes Management packages can you review these packages and fees
Basic GDM - Initial consult and weekly reviews by phone/text up to 38 weeks. $250.00
Commencement of insulin and insulin dose reviews additional $200.00 to basic package
Empower T2I group program – For people with type 2 diabetes using insulin.
Two hour group diabetes support and education program (groups of up to 6 participants).
